Convert WebP Images to PNG

When a WebP file needs to work in an editor or workflow that expects PNG, convert it carefully and check transparency and dimensions.

WebP can store photographic or lossless images and may include transparency. PNG is widely supported and is often convenient for graphics that need transparent pixels. Conversion can improve compatibility, but it does not automatically improve image quality or restore information that was discarded earlier.

How to approach it

Keep the original WebP file, convert a copy, and inspect the output for correct orientation, dimensions, and transparent areas. A lossy WebP converted to PNG will still contain the same compression artifacts; PNG simply preserves the decoded pixels in a lossless container.

Checks before you share

Keep an untouched source file, inspect the exported copy at full size, and confirm that the result suits its intended use. If the image contains private information, check the entire frame and its metadata before publishing.

Frequently asked question

Will converting WebP to PNG make it sharper?

No. It can preserve the current pixels, but it cannot recreate missing detail.

For a practical next step, try the JPG to PNG. You can also use the JPG to WebP for a related image task.
